This was a quick and easy job for us. Another run of the mill hull clean that we do week in week out in and around the Sydney area. This sloop located in Jones Bay Sydney had it’s hull scraped, cleaned and then wiped down.

When we showed this boat owner the photos of his prop speed he was almost speechless. Despite common misconceptions, prop speeds still need to be wiped down and cleaned if the boat is not used on a regular basis. Build up, barnacles, grime and algae can all build up on your prop speed.

As you can see from the photos in this post, this boat was well and truly overdue for a hull clean. When we arrived it was difficult to tell what was going to be waiting for us under the water as it was cloudy with a slight north westerly and the water was a little choppy.

If you’re a boat owner, chances are you’ve often looked at your boat in all it’s glory and admired how absolutely amazing it looks on the water (well, perhaps not on the days you have engine troubles!). Whilst most boats look great from up top, look under the waterline and you will see a very different view!

This boat owner was a competition yacht owner so having every advantage over his competition could be the difference between winning or coming in second.

When we got to this sports cruiser in Sydney’s beautiful North Harbour the owner told us the running gear was so bad that the boat wouldn’t do ten knots. This, we knew was most likely due to build-up on the hull and running gear affecting the speed, reliability and running of the boat.
